vegetarianism

A new trend is becoming increasingly popular: vegetarianism. Throughout the years, most of us use to think of it as a marginal phenomenon, connected with a minor group of outlandish people. The common opinion was that meat was the only source for protein and milk was the only way of getting calcium. New research has disproved it and now everybody knows that the available food in the markets is industrial. That is why many people are looking for new alternatives for balance diet. In parallel, there is also the ethical issue of eating animals that was brought to the public consciousness thanks to Gary Yourofsky's filmed lecture about vegetarianism, which became an Internet sensation.

This phenomenon has transformed from being just an over-publicized trend to a real lifestyle revolution, which has affected many of our personal lives and individual choices. As it spread around the world, vegetarianism has become more available and affordable than ever. Nowadays vegetarianism considered by specialists as the sanest and healthiest lifestyle.

Vegetarianism came into my own life when my daughters decided to become vegetarian about a year ago. Since then, I have made plenty of changes to my cooking routine and I consider myself more aware to the health benefits of vegetarianism. I do not know if this phenomenon is a passing trend or a lasting social change, but I will certainly have to be more creative in preparing my Fridays night dinners for a long time.

  1. Dear Snait
    I enjoyed reading your post.
I have been vegetarian since I was 14. I find it quite interesting how it has became a growing trend among Israelis,

  2. I'm also going through the same process.I'm putting much more thought into our family diet, trying to find healthier (and more humane) substitudes to meat and poultry dishes. This initiative is being accepted with mixed feelings in our home....we can share recipes if you want....

  5. Dear Snait,
Thank you for a well written post.
I hope that I could influence my daughters to eat healthy and batter but they like dry and boring food. I guess I have no one to blame but my self.
